Tom Yoder Neufeld is Professor of Religious Studies (New Testament) at Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo. He has taught at that school since 1983. Prior to that he served as a hospital and prison chaplain in Manitoba, as well as a congregational pastor in Thompson, Manitoba, and Boston, Massachusetts, and later provided congregational leadership in new church plant in Waterloo, Ontario.

Tom grew up in a missionary family. His parents, Abe and Irene Neufeld, spent many years in German speaking Europe, much of it in Austria. Upon returning to North America, Tom attended both Fresno Pacific and Mennonite Brethren Bible College, graduating with a BA (Hons.) in History from the University of Manitoba in 1970. Tom went on to study at Harvard Divinity School for two stints, earning a Master of Divinity in 1973, and a Doctor of Theology in New Testament  in 1989.

In addition to numerous articles, both scholarly and popular, Tom has published several books, among them Ephesians (Believers Church Bible Commentary; Herald Press, 2002), and Recovering Jesus: the Witness of the New Testament, Brazos, 2007. Tom is presently working on a volume for Baker and SPCK, entitled Killing Enmity: Violence and the New Testament, to be published in 2011.

Tom resides in Waterloo, and is married to Rebecca who has been a pastor in Kitchener and staff with Mennonite Church Canada Witness in Eastern Canada. They have two children, Miriam, finishing up pre-med at the University of Ottawa, and David, a recent graduate of the University of Waterloo, presently residing with his wife of a few months, Gina, in her home city of Bogota, Colombia. Tom enjoys the arts, in particular singing, painting, writing, preaching, and teaching, not necessarily in that order.
