
Church Music and Worship is an interdisciplinary program of study which may be taken in conjunction with many existing programs in Arts and other faculties at the University of Waterloo. The program consists of Music, Religious Studies, and Church Music and Worship practicum courses. The program is designed to prepare students with the theoretical and practical background for the consideration of questions related to the function of music in a worship setting. It provides a course of study for those who have special interest in working in the area of music in worship.
PROGRAM POSSIBILITIES
Students registered in regular or degree programs may register for the Option/Minor. Students in non-degree or post-degree studies may be admitted to the Diploma.
Requirements are identical for all programs (option, minor, or diploma). Students must complete ten term courses from those listed below with a cumulative average of at least 65%. All courses are regular 0.5 courses and count towards fulfillment of requirements for graduation. Before registration, students should consult with the Program Director,Dr. Ken Hull, at the University of Waterloo Music Department, Conrad Grebel University College, to determine which courses will be available during the coming year.
Option/Minor
Students enrolled in Honours or Four-Year General Major academic plans in Arts, or in Honours plans in other faculties, may elect to pursue a Minor or Option in Church Music and Worship. Students must complete ten courses from the list below, with a cumulative average of at least 65%. Courses should be chosen in consultation with the Program Director in the Department of Music.
Students should note that no more than five courses can be double-counted with their major.
Diploma
This program is for full- or part-time students who wish to explore issues of church music but who are not necessarily seeking a University degree or who already hold such a degree. Students must choose five courses from the required course list below. For the Diploma to be granted, the cumulative average in these courses must be at least 65%.
